Working principle and application of centrifugal compressor

Centrifugal Compressor
Rate this post

Centrifugal compressors are a common type of compressor that compress gases to higher pressures and temperatures by the centrifugal force of high-speed rotation. Its working principle can be summarized as the following steps:

Centrifugal Compressor

Gas enters the intake port of the centrifugal compressor and is directed into the rotating impeller of the centrifugal compressor.

Centrifugal Compressor

The rotating impeller projects the gas to the outside through high-speed rotation, causing the gas to be compressed under the action of centrifugal force, thereby increasing the pressure and temperature of the gas.

The compressed gas is discharged through the outlet of the centrifugal compressor and supplied to the downstream process system.

Centrifugal compressors have the advantages of simple structure, small size, low noise, and stable operation, and are widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning, petrochemical, electric power, steel and other industrial fields. Common applications include:

Refrigeration and air-conditioning systems: Centrifugal compressors are widely used in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. They can compress low-temperature and low-pressure refrigerants into high-temperature and high-pressure gases, allowing them to flow in the refrigeration cycle system, thereby achieving the cooling effect of the air-conditioning system.

Petrochemical industry: Centrifugal compressors are widely used in the petrochemical industry to compress gas, transport gas and increase gas pressure. For example, in an oil refinery, centrifugal compressors are used to compress heated crude oil gas into high-pressure gas for delivery to downstream process units.

Power industry: The application of centrifugal compressors in the power industry mainly includes air compression systems for gas turbines and steam turbines. Centrifugal compressors compress atmospheric air into high-pressure gas that is supplied to combustors in gas and steam turbines, improving combustion efficiency and power generation.

Iron and Steel Industry: Centrifugal compressors are widely used in the iron and steel industry for the compression and delivery of high-temperature and high-pressure gases. For example, in a blast furnace, a centrifugal compressor can compress air and hot blast into high-temperature and high-pressure gas, which is supplied to the blast furnace combustion chamber, thereby achieving the effect of blast furnace smelting.
