What should you pay attention to when choosing air compressor oil?

Lubricating oil is extremely important for the operation of air compressors. The main function of lubricating oil in the screw air compressor system is to avoid friction, sealing and cooling of various components. Usually we choose lubricants based on equipment performance, working environment, working temperature and other factors. So what specific factors should we pay attention to when choosing lubricants?

1.Viscosity

Viscosity is the main technical indicator of lubricating oil flow performance. Typically, lubricants are branded based on their viscosity. Viscosity is the main basis for air compressor oil selection and oil change. Based on factors such as oil viscosity, color, usage time, etc., test whether the oil is oxidized or has reached the end of its service life. Mineral oil generally cannot be higher than 15%. If it is too high and used for too long, it will produce coking and carbon deposits.

2. Flash point

Ignition point: The lowest temperature at which lubricating oil will vaporize and catch fire when it comes into contact with a fire source. Therefore, the higher the flash point temperature of the lubricant, the better. Of course, this is only one of the factors measuring the quality of the lubricant.

3. Pour point

Pour point refers to the lowest temperature when lubricating oil flows. The lower the temperature when flowing, the better. Usually the tilt point of mineral oil is about -19℃–21℃. The pour point of the screw air compressor lubricant should be selected according to the use environment. For example: In northern winter, when the temperature is low, synthetic oil should be used. Because the mineral oil has a high slope, it is easy for the air compressor to fail to start.

4.Acid value

The acid value of new oil is <0.09. During long-term use, the internal oil of the air compressor system will be mixed with impurities, iron filings and other pollutants, which will increase the acid value of the oil and accelerate the oxidation rate of the oil. When the acid value of the lubricating oil exceeds 1, it needs to be replaced with new oil in time.
